The research report «Alcohol and Poverty in Sri Lanka» is the result of a study by the Norwegian researcher Bergljot Baklien and the Sri Lankan Professor Diyanath Samarasinghe. Sumnima Tuladhar of CWIN presented the results of a study on alcohol and drug use among street children in six urban centres in Nepal at a FORUT conference recently. The children are very much affected by glue sniffing.
«Alcohol and Drug Use in Nepal With Reference to Children» is the title of the report released in Kathmandu in June. This survey was conducted by Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN) in co-operation with the Thribhuvan University as part of the Local Action programme.

Som 12-åring kom Anita til krisesenteret Balika i Nepal. Anita var forknytt og innesluttet da hun kom til Balika. Nå er hun uredd forkjemper for jenters rettigheter. Hun samlet klassen til aksjon og forhindret at en klassevenninne ble barnebrud. FORUT støtter Balika-hjemmet i Katmandu. Her får mishandlede jenter en ny sjanse. Med utdanning, veiledning og terapi blir jenter trygge og selvstendige.
APSA (Association for Promoting Social Action) i India har lenge ønsket å bygge et senter for barn og unge som trenger trygghet og omsorg for å komme seg ut av misbruk og overgrep. Nå har drømmen gått i oppfyllelse! Suraksha betyr nettopp trygghet og beskyttelse, og ved hjelp av alternativ metodikk og pedagogikk gir APSA barn og unge muligheter til å komme ut av undertrykking og slaveri, og starte et nytt liv.
