About FORUT

FORUT is a Norwegian NGO that works towards safeguarding children

Our main aim is to create a world where people have real power to change their own lives, and where harmful drugs and substances as well as poor mental health do not hinder people’s access to safety and development.

We work towards a just and fair world. Our work is concentrated on children’s rights and women’s rights focusing on global health and poverty eradication. FORUT believes that development work requires a holistic approach which is why we work in closely interlinked areas: Children’s Rights; Gender Equality; Mental Health; and Alcohol, Drugs and Development.

This work contributes to many of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as eradicating poverty (goal 1), quality education (goal 4), gender equality (goal 5) and reduce inequalities (goal 10). Goal 3, good health and wellbeing is particularly important to FORUT. This is a precondition to achieving sustainable development.

FORUT was established in 1981 by the Norwegian organizations IOGT, Juba and Juvente. Our main office is at Gjøvik, Innlandet. The main avenues of finance is the Norad framework agreement, our school and kindergarten campaigns and private donors.

We have 17 partner organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
